Stop Being a Baby and Grow Up-Hebrews chapter 5

Dr. James Sutton II

(Heb 5:8)  Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered.

(Heb 5:9)  And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,

(Heb 5:10)  being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

(Heb 5:11)  About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

(Heb 5:12)  For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,

(Heb 5:13)  for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.

(Heb 5:14)  But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

We are now come to a great place to review Jesus being the better priest and the only high priest. In verses 8 through 11 we observed a summary of what makes Jesus Christ the most qualified person to be our advocate before God.

I want you to turn your paper over and list as many qualifications from Scripture, (Hebrews chapter 5:8 -11) you can find.

For some reason many Christians have heard the gospel and his teachings for many years, such as we see in Hebrews. Consequently it would be reasonable to expect those who are in the faith for many decades have a mature and growing relationship with their faith and their doctrines. Some sit there year after year and know more about nothing than they did when they first came to the faith. Yes, Jesus does save but there’s so much more in that statement to spend a lifetime in exploration and curiosity. They are just sitting there waiting to die and see Jesus, versus living life to its fullness for his glory. (Genesis 1:26-31)

Instead this group, “the dull of hearing” become ritualistic and callous. They are satisfied with the window dressings of church and really do not care to mature. As long as they could have their food, fun and fellowship they are content. Feeding their flesh through ritualistic superficial worship becomes part of their spiritual DNA. Amazingly when the spirit is not fed it will become anorexic and the toxicity of the flesh will continue to decay their mind. (2 Timothy 4:3-5)  The dull of hearing is a cause for the drifting we see in Hebrews chapter 2.

In the afore mentioned passages this group is also called, “Babes”. All they want to do stay a baby in Christ all their lives and yet want to be respected as a tool and complete. Just like babies, they are whiners, selfish, selfabsorbed, attention junkies and lazy. They always want someone else to hold them spiritually and do for them what God has tried to equip them to do for themselves. This group of spiritually infantile adults actually weighs a church down. One reason is they are always having to be carried by the other members and tended to, never allowing the mature members to go out and do ministry.

(Being a Christian is not a union job). Time in the faith does not necessarily equate to maturity. Knowing the traditions and rituals of having church only demonstrate your ability to function in that domain as instructed. Focus on being the church and not having the church. Focus on the rituals and light of the relationship that they portray and are a shadow of.)

God did not send his only begotten son so you can become a welfare recipient spiritually. Jesus came so that you may have life abundantly in every way. (Ephesians 4:1-16). If you are not growing you are die. Too many Saints are sitting in churches withering away and consequently they never get a chance to see someone else saved through the gospel that comes out of their mouth.

I have a question for, is your saving testimony and your discipline lifestyle enough to be a good witness for Jesus Christ and save someone else?

One of the center standards of the initiative is trust. Previously, leadership was scant and extraordinary, a component of influential individuals. In the present day, that vertical model of administration is less viable CLIK HERE.
